Velosia Kingdom Builders’ Center - Kenya

Velosia Kingdom Builders Center Kenya (VKBC), is Be a Hero’s flagship project, which offers a Christian and loving home for orphaned, abused and abandoned children in the Republic of Kenya, in the Eastern region of Africa. The initial goals were to provide for the physical and emotional needs of children between ages 4 to 18. By making an initial land purchase in 2005, construction of the orphan home was successfully started in 2006, located minutes outside the city of Nakuru, Kenya, in a small town called Dundori. The VKBC home now provides safe sanctuary for those who would otherwise be urchins on the street, without means for shelter, food, clothing, healthcare or education.

You might wonder why are there so thousands of orphaned children in this region? The answer lies in the crisis which communities face when parents die prematurely due to HIV-Aids, tribal wars and Malaria, ultimately leaving many young children without caregivers. With the help of the Ministry of Social Services of the Republic of Kenya, VKBC is established as a Community Based Organization to assist in researching the backgrounds of orphaned children. By screening and assessing their emotional and physical well-being, opportunities are readily identified to provide medical attention and address the academic needs of the children. With adequate nutrition, timely medical attention and a loving home environment, the lives of the children are being dramatically improved from their prior impoverished conditions.

With the Lord’s help and community support, God has demonstrated His favor over lives of the little ones in the care of VKBC. Velosia Kingdom Builders’ Center continues to work on maintaining its principles, which are built on the foundation of the Gospel. Using biblical teachings which focus on God’s written word, VKBC provides unconditional love, a structured environment and a therapeutic home like setting. The project’s greatest achievements are being realized on the campus when you hear children’s laughter, see optimism on their smiling faces and watch them pursue the hopes for their bright futures.

What we’ve done...

Phases I and II of the Children’s residence, completed in 2008 and 2010, provides furnished sleeping quarters, showers, restrooms, a commercial grade kitchen, dining area and classrooms which accommodates 50 children. Phase III, includes volunteer housing, staff quarters, and the addition of sleeping accommodations for teen boys. Additional onsite projects which have been completed inside the project include the Jean Hines Caldwell Sewing Center, a Community Library, a Computer Lab Center and a Livestock Barn. Be A Hero, Change A LIfe

Local Employment: Velosia Kingdom Builders Center offers employment to over 15 full time employees and 10 casual laborers. Since its inception, the project has made a positive economic impact by playing a role in improving the local poverty level and decreasing unemployment in the area.

Agricultural Resources: The VKBC project stretches over 12 acres of fertile farm land, yielding an opportunity to provide additional food resources to the community and supplement the feeding needs of the project’s children. By raising various farm animals and crops onsite, an economic benefit is provided as costs of feeding the children are offset. Additionally, the VKBC children are taught invaluable life skills as they obtain training in agricultural skills and learn the importance of taking care of the needs of others.

Education: An important objective not to be overlooked is the education of the children. By attending local and area schools, academic opportunities that would not otherwise be available, are being provided to the children. They are being groomed to succeed in both trade/technical schools and University level advancement.
